2021 saw the launch of The RD Jones Academy, a complimentary training and education program created by the RD Jones Group, for all company staff members. Consisting of monthy training sessions, all RD Jones staff members have the opportunity to attend a broad range of informative yet exciting sessions throughout the calendar year, all of which are focused around four key categories: skill, product, personal development and health and wellbeing. Each session is hosted by an industry professional who provides in-depth knowldge from their field through a combination of theory and practical based learning.

Mission

The RD Jones Group is dedicated to being an industry leader in staff development; creating opportunities for team members to carve passionate, long lasting careers within hospitality. The RD Jones Academy was created to focus on strenghtening and improving staff product knowledge, skills and self development. This ethos has served as the backbone of the RD Jones Academy’s purpose and mission.

CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING | WOODCROFT HOTEL

This training session was held at The Woodcroft Hotel by two of The RD Jones Group’s most respected Venue Managers; Lindsie Briscoe from The Woodcroft Hotel, and Mike Hooper from The Gully Public House & Garden. The aim was to improve staff’s customer service knowledge through theory and practical based learning. The session outlined what good customer service means and the importance of living out the RD Jones Group’s company trademark ‘we exist to create an unforgettable experience.’

health & wellbeing training

RELAXATION AND SLEEP TRAINING | GULLY PUBLIC HOUSE AND GARDEN

This training session was held at The Gully Public House and Garden by wellness coach, yoga teacher and deep peace facilitator, Cherie from Grass Roots Wellness. The aim of the session was to provide staff with education on work-life balance, stress management, health and nutrition, and mental health support. Staff learned about healthy, stress and burn out coping techniques including meditation, sleep hygeine and breathing techniques for everyday life.


PRODUCT training

WINE TASTING AND TRAINING | DOWIE DOOLE

This training session was held at Dowie Doole’s winery and cellar door in Mclaren Vale by head winemaker, Chris Thomas. The session comprised of a tour the vineyard and cellar door, as well as indepth product training and tasting. The aim was to educate staff on the Dowie Doole brand and their product- as Dowie Doole wines are stocked in all of the groups venues. Staff were handed tasting notes that provided information on all the core wines that were presented in the wine flight, so they would have a reference for upselling it to patrons.

personal development training

LEADERSHIP TRAINING | THE BARTLEY HOTEL

This training session was held at The Bartley Hotel by The RD Jones Group’s HR and WHS manager Kate Harris and Leading Teams facilitator, Shelly McElroy. The session focused on fostering work place culture by touching on leadership, conflict resolution, career growth, time management and problem solving. Staff were given notes and shown the DiSC personal assesment tool which can be used to improve teamwork, communcation and productivity in the workplace.
